Appreciation post: A customer in Phoenix once told me my wall fish looked like a toddler did it
I started practicing with a piece of scrap drywall and a bucket of spackle at home for a month, and my lines are way cleaner now. Anyone have a better trick for keeping those low voltage rings nice and flush?

My old boss in Tucson taught me to score the drywall with a utility knife first. That little groove gives the ring a perfect seat every time.

Honestly I used to think those low voltage rings were just a cosmetic thing you could slap in. Then I had to redo a whole media panel because the rings were so crooked the faceplates wouldn't sit right. Now I use a torpedo level on every single one before I screw it down. Takes an extra ten seconds but saves so much headache later.

You didn't level the rings before? I just assumed that was standard practice from day one. Crooked plates drive me nuts, they make the whole install look sloppy. A torpedo level is the only way to get it right for sure. Good on you for changing your method, that redo sounds like a nightmare.
