Overheard a guy at the supply counter say he never cleans old lens helicoids, just replaces them. I used to think that was lazy, but after fighting a stuck 50mm f/1.8 for two hours last week, I'm starting to see his point.

Wait, you can just buy a new helicoid? That's a thing?

Man, that feeling is the worst. I was ready to throw my own project lens out the window last month. Sometimes the old grease turns into concrete and it just isn't worth the fight. Where do you even find replacement helicoids for something like that?
