Finally saw the difference between a generic cover letter and a tailored one

I sent out 50 applications with the same basic letter and got zero replies. For the next 10, I spent 15 minutes each to match the job description, and got three interviews. Has anyone else found a specific line from the posting that always works to include?

My old boss at the print shop told me to always pull a key duty from the job ad and put it right in the first line. He said hiring managers scan for that exact match. I started doing it for warehouse jobs and it actually worked. It shows you read the thing and didn't just blast out the same letter to everyone. That first line hook seems to get them to read the rest.

Spent years thinking my generic "I'm a hard worker" line was a winner. Turns out hiring managers have a sixth sense for copy-paste jobs. My go-to move now is lifting the exact phrase they use for a main duty, like "streamlining inventory management" or "enhancing customer satisfaction metrics". It feels a bit like cheating on a test, but if the key is just proving you read the instructions, I'll copy their homework word for word.

My printer guy gave me the same advice.
