TIL the hard way that ghosting a recruiter can come back to bite you

I blew off a recruiter from Robert Half back in March because I got busy with another offer. Fast forward to last week and that same recruiter is now the hiring manager at a company I really wanted to work for in Austin. They remembered my name and my silence, and the interview was dead in the water before I even sat down. Anyone else had an old recruitment interaction come back to mess with their job hunt?

@victor_adams I'd argue it wasn't one missed interview though, more like the universe deciding to teach me a lesson in karma. My ghosting skills turned out to be way better than my job hunting skills apparently. The recruiter even mentioned my silence during the interview which was awkward enough to make me want to crawl under the table. Let's just say I've learned to always reply to recruiters now even if it's just a quick "not interested" text. It's cheaper than burning a bridge you didn't even know you'd need later.

Isn't it funny how the universe has a way of reminding us we're not as slick as we think? I once ghosted a recruiter so hard I ended up accidentally applying to the same company six months later and had to pretend I didn't remember their voicemails. At least you only burned one bridge I probably torched a whole neighborhood.

Sounds like a stretch to blame them for one missed interview.
