Went to a new build in Columbus and the subfloor was a disaster
My buddy called me last week to help on a high end house out in Dublin, Ohio. We show up and the GC had poured self leveler right over the tack strip lines without even scraping them, looked like a ripple effect everywhere. I spent 4 hours just grinding down globs and the homeowner kept asking why we weren't laying carpet yet. Anyone else deal with GCs who don't prep worth a damn before you arrive?
Wait, did they even walk the floor before pouring that stuff? I've seen tack strip lines left, but pouring self leveler right over them is a whole new level of lazy. The ripple look is bad enough, but then you're stuck grinding for hours and the homeowner is staring at you like you're the problem. I mean, a quick scrape takes twenty minutes max. Some GCs just see carpet as the "easy finish" and forget that glue and leveler need a clean base too. Honestly, you handled that better than most would.
