My cousin called my old truck a 'rolling coal factory' and it stung...
I started idling it less at the yard after that, and I'm looking into a tune-up to cut the smoke. Anyone know a good diesel mechanic in the Phoenix area who does emissions work?

That's actually a good thing to cut back on, right? Rolling coal is when guys modify trucks to make extra smoke on purpose. Sounds like yours just needs some work.

Oh man, that's a rough one. I've been there. My uncle once told me my old pickup sounded like a tractor with a bad muffler and I didn't drive it for a week. It's tough hearing that from family because you know they're not trying to be mean but it still hits different. Good on you for doing something about it though. I hope you find a good mechanic in Phoenix who can get that thing running clean and smooth again.
