Noticed my electric bill dropped $18 after I switched to a smart power strip setup
Plugged my entertainment center and office gear into one strip that cuts power when devices are idle, and saw the difference after just one billing cycle. Has anyone else seen real savings from those, or do they just feel like a gimmick?

Wait, is $18 really worth bragging about though? I mean, that's like one fast food meal and a coffee. Feels like the strip itself probably cost more than you saved in the first month.

You're missing the point with that "one fast food meal" line though. $18 a month adds up to $216 a year, which is basically a free utility bill for people like me who are pinching pennies. And if you're already going to buy those things anyway, it's not about the strip cost, it's about turning a small recurring expense into a small recurring saving.

Totally agree with you @robinp72, that's exactly how I see it too. I've been doing the same thing with my grocery store's loyalty app, clipping digital coupons, and it's wild how those tiny 30 cent and 50 cent savings stack up to like $200 a year.
