Tried switching to a plant-based diet for a month to lower my carbon footprint

I went full vegan for 30 days thinking I'd cut my food emissions in half, but my grocery bill actually went up by $40 because I kept buying fancy nut cheeses and avocados. Then I found out from a friend that local seasonal veggies and less red meat matter way more than going all-in on trendy substitutes. Has anyone else had their wallet take a hit while trying to eat greener?

My buddy became a cheese connoisseur on a budget and regretted every receipt he opened.

Oh man, the avocado trap got you too? I fell for that exact thing when I first tried cutting back on meat. Here's my real question though: did you actually track the carbon difference between those fancy substitutes and the local stuff you could have bought instead? I'm curious if the $40 extra was just paying for packaging and shipping, not actual environmental gain.
