Showerthought: I used to think a $400 espresso machine was a waste when a $20 moka pot made coffee just fine, but after burning my third pot in six months trying to rush the process before work, I finally caved and bought a Breville Bambino.
The consistent pressure and built-in timer mean I actually enjoy the ritual now instead of stressing over a bitter, scorched mess, so has anyone else had a similar switch from a 'purist' manual method to a gadget that just works better for your real life?

Read a great article about the "ceremony versus convenience" debate in coffee.

But what if convenience is the whole point? Sometimes you just need the caffeine to get going, not a whole ritual. All that ceremony can feel like a lot of fuss for what is, at the end of the day, just a drink. I worry we get so caught up in the perfect method that we forget to enjoy the coffee itself. A quick, decent cup from a machine can be just as good for your morning.

Honestly that whole convenience argument misses the point. The ceremony is what makes it more than just a drink, it's a small moment to slow down. If you just slam caffeine from a machine, you're treating coffee like a drug. That little bit of fuss is the whole joy of it, it makes you pay attention. A quick cup is fine sometimes, but calling it just as good feels like settling. The ritual is what turns a daily need into something you actually enjoy.
