TIL that $40 coffee bean subscription was a total scam

I signed up for this monthly subscription from a roaster in Denver back in February. Paid $40 for the first bag and it showed up looking like someone dumped used motor oil on the beans. The roast date was 6 months old and they wouldn't refund me. Now I just buy from my local shop where I can see the beans before handing over cash. Has anyone else gotten burned by those fancy subscription deals?

So here's the thing nobody's talking about. Sure, it's "just coffee" in a cup, but what about the people who grew up with parents that used coffee time as the only real chance to talk? For some folks, that morning cup is the last memory they have of their dad before he shipped out or passed away. Taking that away feels like you're erasing something personal, not just skipping a drink.
