TIL the best way to get my wife into comics was to start with a single, perfect issue, not a huge trade.

I kept trying to hand her these big, thick graphic novels like 'Watchmen' or 'Sandman' and she'd just get overwhelmed. Last month, I grabbed a single issue of 'Superman: Up in the Sky' from a bin for $4. It's a complete, self-contained story about him going to the edge of the universe to save a little girl. She read it in 15 minutes and actually asked me what happens next. I've been overcomplicating it for years. Anyone else have a specific 'gateway' comic that actually worked on a total newbie?

Total newbie" is a bit much, it's just comics. You found something she liked, that's all.

Sometimes the big books are the right place to start.
