Warning: My buddy told me to stop bagging and boarding my new comics... and I'm glad I didn't listen.

He's a collector too, and he said it was a waste of money and time for modern books, that they'd be fine in a short box raw. This was about 8 months ago. Well, I just pulled out a stack I bought back then that I hadn't gotten around to yet, and the top book had a nasty color-breaking spine tick and a corner ding from just sliding against the others. If I'd listened to him, my copy of 'Nightwing' #105 would be in way worse shape. It's a lesson I had to learn the hard way, but now I'm extra careful. Has anyone else had a friend give you collecting advice that almost wrecked your stuff?

Shake my head at anyone who says bagging and boarding is a waste... that's how you end up with disasters like @ryanburns and his Dune book. Modern books can get wrecked just as easy as old ones sliding around in a box. Your buddy's advice would have cost you a nice copy. Some people just don't get how careful you gotta be.

Yeah, that "waste of time for modern books" take is how you end up with damaged spines.

My copy of Dune looks like it went through a paper shredder. Guess I should've broken the spine properly.
