Showerthought: The 'final walkthrough' is where the real work begins
We finished a full office build-out in Des Moines two days ago, and the client's walkthrough list had 47 items. Half were paint touch-ups on walls that will have furniture pushed against them. The project manager said, 'We just need it perfect for the photos.' I spent six hours yesterday on a scissor lift for spots no one will ever see again. Does anyone else feel like the last 10% of a job eats up 50% of the time?

Sounds about right. The last bit is always chasing invisible perfection for the client's peace of mind. My back hurts just reading about that scissor lift.

Do you ever get the feeling that clients are just checking boxes to feel in control? The list becomes more about the process than the actual finished space. It's like we're building for the checklist, not for the people using it.

Ugh, that's the worst. I started taking close-up photos of those 'hidden' areas during the punch list meeting to show the work is done. It cuts down on return trips for stuff that gets covered anyway. Saves everyone a headache later.
