Lost comms on a 60 foot dive in the Columbia River last Tuesday
My helmet comms went dead at 45 feet and I couldn't hear topside at all for the next 15 minutes. Ended up having to use pull signals on the umbilical to get them to haul me up, felt like a total rookie but it got the job done. Anyone else had a comms fail mid dive and have to go old school with the rope?

Man that brings back memories of my cert dives when I forgot to plug my headset in all the way and spent five minutes screaming into dead air before figuring it out! Nothing like a good old rope yank to humble a guy real quick.

... I mean is it really that big of a deal though? Comms go out, you use the rope. That's literally why we have it. It's still a mechanical system that works just fine if the electronics fail. I've had my light die before and it was annoying but not the end of the world. Seems like people get too dependent on the fancy gear and forget we did this stuff for decades without any of it.
