So I've been cleaning my dive helmet wrong for like two years
I was in the shop yesterday and my buddy Jake saw me using a regular old scrub brush on the inside of my Kirby Morgan. He just stared and goes, 'Dude, you're gonna wreck the seal doing that.' I had no idea you're supposed to use a soft toothbrush for the inner skirt. I thought the stiff bristles were just getting it cleaner. Anyone else have a helmet cleaning routine they swear by?

Actually, a sponge can still be too rough on the faceplate.

Yeah, the skirt material is way softer than people think. I use a baby toothbrush for that part, the kind with the super soft bristles. For the shell and faceplate, a regular dish sponge with the soft side is fine. Just avoid anything abrasive, it leaves tiny scratches you don't even see until the light hits them wrong.

Remember my friend who cleaned his old game console with a paper towel? He swore it was fine, just a quick wipe. Then he held it under the lamp one day and the whole screen looked like a spiderweb of fine lines. He was so bummed, said it ruined the whole look. That's exactly what happens with the wrong cloth, even if it feels soft.
