Tired of plain slabs, eyeing stamped concrete. What's the move?
Been doing basic pours for years. The decorative stuff seems more profitable, but I'm clueless about techniques. How did you guys learn fancy finishes?

Yeah, moving from basic pours to fancy work can feel like starting over. I picked up methods by shadowing a crew that focused on it for a couple weekends. The start is hard, but the payoff in job variety is worth it.

Shadowing for a couple weekends is a solid idea. What was the single hardest technique or trick to pick up when you first started? I'm guessing there's a big gap between knowing the theory and actually making it look good on site. Was it the timing, the mix, or just getting a steady hand for the details? What part of the skill gap surprised you the most?

Oh man, isn't it wild how simple something can look until you try it? For me, feathering the concrete to get that smooth finish was the real killer at first. I knew I had to tilt the trowel and pull, but my timing was always off, so I'd leave weird lines or dig in too deep. The surprise was how much you feel it in your forearm, trying to keep that angle steady while moving just right. It took way more muscle memory than I ever expected from just watching!
