I stumbled on the actual county-level migration numbers last weekend while killing time at the library, and the fact that rural counties in Montana and Idaho grew faster than any coastal city, which never gets mentioned in the usual 'they're moving us for control' arguments, makes me wonder if anyone else sees a plain demographic explanation here or if that's just too boring.

Take one look at the county maps and the whole 'control' thing falls apart. People just want cheaper land and mountains, plain and simple. Montana's growth is all about remote work and housing costs, not some secret plot. Boring answer, but it fits the facts.
