Wait, they said "too smart"? Like that was the actual complaint? That's wild, people usually want content to be more insightful not less.

Oof yeah I've been there. Had someone tell me my writing was "too academic" once and it stung because I thought I was being clear. But honestly looking back I think some people just get intimidated when they feel like they have to keep up with the material instead of just absorbing it. It took me a while to realize that meeting people where they're at isn't dumbing things down, it's just being a better communicator.
