Burned $800 on a content agency that just rewrote my blog posts

Hired a fancy agency from a conference in Austin last spring and after 3 months of paying them they were just paraphrasing my old competitor's articles with zero original research or strategy, anyone else fallen for a polished pitch deck?

I read a piece in Marketing Brew last month about how a lot of these agencies just use cheap offshore writers and slap a fancy name on it... 60% of them apparently don't even do original interviews. That $800 could have bought you a really solid freelance writer from places like Upwork who actually knows your industry. It's such a common trap, especially when they show you that glossy case study from a totally different niche.

Used to roll my eyes at people who said agencies were mostly smoke and mirrors, but this kind of story is making me rethink that. Your experience lines up with what I've heard from a few other business owners lately, where the polished pitch was way better than the actual work. Take this with a grain of salt, but it sounds like you dodged a bigger bullet than $800.

Wait, isn't that basically fraud though?
