TIL a $40 UV lamp can make or break a gel manicure

I bought a cheap lamp online for my home kit thinking it would be fine. Did a full set on myself and the gel was still tacky after the full cure time. Had to wipe and redo two nails, which messed up the base. Turns out the lamp's wattage was way lower than advertised. Anyone know a reliable brand for a small, affordable lamp that actually works?

My first lamp was a fifteen dollar disaster from a random website. I ended up with weirdly cured, sticky nails that felt like glue traps. I finally caved and got a SunUV one from Amazon, and it actually works like it's supposed to.

That "weirdly cured, sticky nails" thing is the worst, @grace_white. I learned the hard way that a cheap lamp just bakes the gel wrong. Spending a bit more on a decent one makes all the difference for a smooth finish.

Honestly, I used to be the person who thought all those lamps were basically the same. Figured it was just a light bulb in a box. Then I had the same sticky mess happen, and it totally changed my mind. It's not just about curing the gel, it's about curing it right so it actually feels like a nail and not a weird plastic layer. That cheap lamp was basically just warming up goo.
