PSA: My boss told me to ignore the wind gauge on a 150 ton lift

We were setting steel for a new building in Kansas City, wind was hitting 22 mph on the gauge. My boss, a guy with 30 years on me, said 'just get it done, that thing is too sensitive.' I went against my gut and tried it. The load started swinging like crazy about 80 feet up, had to set it down fast. Took us three hours to get it stable again. Never again. How do you guys handle pressure to work outside the safe limits?

Ever have a boss who treats safety gear like it's just a suggestion? Mine tried to get me to use a cracked harness clip once.

A cracked HARNESS clip? That's insane.

Yeah that's a hard no. Seen a clip fail in person, not a fun day. Tell that boss to buy new gear or find someone else to do the job.
