Switched from free antivirus to a paid one after a close call last month

Honestly that "close call" part hits hard. I had a similar scare last year where a drive-by download slipped through my free antivirus and I didn't even notice for two days until my bank called about weird charges. Tbh the peace of mind from paid protection is worth it just for the real-time behavior blocking that catches stuff before it even runs. Ngl I still keep the free version on a secondary machine and the difference in detection speed is night and day.

Adding to what was said about detection speed, its not just faster its way more thorough too. The free ones basically check signatures and thats about it, but paid tools watch how programs actually behave and flag weird stuff in real time. Had a crypto miner hide in my temp files once and the free av didnt catch it for weeks until I manually scanned. Paid version picked it up in like 2 minutes after install. The heuristics layer is the real difference maker. People think theyre paying for just a bigger database but the tech behind it is completely different.
