Appreciation post: my old Wacom Bamboo vs the iPad I use now in Seattle
Back in 2016 I was doing all my line art on a Wacom Bamboo in Photoshop on a 13 inch laptop, and I had to redraw every stroke like 3 times to get it clean. Now I just sketch straight on the iPad with Procreate and the whole flow takes maybe half the time, but I kinda miss how the old setup made me slow down and actually plan my strokes. Does anyone else feel like the new tools made them faster but maybe a little lazy with their line work?
Man that slow-down thing is real. When I was on my old tablet I had to commit to every line because fixing it sucked so bad, so I learned to see the whole shape in my head before the pen even touched. Now I can undo fifty times a minute and honestly some of my sketches look like I never decided anything, just kept nudging until it was okay. The speed is nice but there's something about being forced to get it right that actually made my hand better. Thinking about doing a week where I turn off undo and see how bad it gets.
