My digital art contest entry got erased by a crash

I was making a piece for a digital art contest. My program froze and ruined the only file I had. I did not save any other versions while working. Every layer and change disappeared. Now I save a new copy after each big edit. I name them with the date and a short note. It takes a little extra time but saves huge headaches. Do not make the same mistake I did.

Auto-save is a lifesaver for that.

Remember when we didn't have that feature? Lost a three page email once because the cat walked on the keyboard. I've learned the hard way that my own forgetfulness is the biggest threat to my work. Auto-save mostly just protects me from myself, and I definitely need the help. It's the silent hero for anyone who gets distracted halfway through anything.

That's a solid plan for saving your work. It really shows how we build little safety nets into our routine after a bad scare. @troylane is right about auto-save, but adding your own manual step like you do now covers the gaps tech can miss. It's like checking the stove twice before you leave the house, you know? What other little habits have you picked up from past mistakes?
