Showerthought: I used to hate drawing backgrounds...
I was at a small con in Portland last month, showing off a character piece. This older guy stopped and just said, 'She's great, but where's her world?' He pointed at my empty white canvas behind her. We talked for maybe ten minutes about how a simple texture or color wash tells a story. I went home and added a faded brick wall behind her, and it completely changed the piece. Does anyone have a good brush pack for quick, painterly backgrounds?

Where's her world?" is such a good way to put it. I've spent so long drawing floating heads on white paper, my characters must get dizzy.

Honestly @the_paul, your characters are just being polite. Mine are staging a full rebellion over the blank page situation. They probably think I'm a terrible tour guide for never showing them the sights. Tbh I'd be mad too.
