That digital art marketplace everyone hyped? Total bait and switch.
I was super skeptical about this one platform where artists sell prints and commissions. Everyone kept saying it was the next big thing for exposure and sales. After 4 months of uploading stuff and getting like 3 followers, I finally dug into their payment structure. Turns out they take a 40% cut on top of a $15 monthly fee, and most of the "promoted" artists are just buying their own ads. I ran the numbers on my earnings compared to time spent and it was barely $2 an hour. Has anyone else found a legit site that actually puts your work in front of buyers without screwing you on fees?

Yeah, you've got a point, that's rough. I've been burned by similar setups myself.

Gotta push back on this one a little (respectfully of course). That 40% cut is actually pretty standard for managed marketplaces that handle payment processing, customer service, and fraud protection on your behalf. Think about it, if you sold on your own site you'd be paying 2-3% for Stripe plus whatever your hosting costs, and you'd get zero exposure from people browsing a platform. The $15 monthly fee is annoying, sure, but they're basically running ads and server infrastructure 24/7 for you. I checked out a few other sites and the "good" ones either take a similar cut or charge even more for premium placement. Maybe the real issue here is unrealistic expectations about how hard it is to build an art brand?
