Lost my entire client spreadsheet when my laptop crashed in a Bangkok cafe

I was working from this noisy spot near Khao San Road when my screen just went black and I realized I hadn't backed up in three months... about 45 client contacts and project notes just gone. Has anyone else had a catastrophic tech failure while traveling and how did you recover from it?

Why not just email yourself the file? @lily_singh2 is overthinking this.

Used to think cloud backups were paranoid overkill until I lost two years of tax records to a corrupted SD card in a Hanoi hostel. Now I have three copies of everything, one in the cloud, one on a portable drive, and one on a USB stick I keep in my sock drawer. That spreadsheet was probably recoverable from the hard drive if a shop had the right tools, but waiting a week to find out would have been brutal.
