Found my roommate loading spoons handle-up and it got weirdly personal

Walked into the kitchen last night and saw my roommate stacking all the spoons with handles pointing up. I've always done handles down so they get clean. He said handles up is better for germs. We argued for 10 minutes then he showed me a study from some university about bacteria on handles. Now I don't know what to think. Anyone else switch sides on this after seeing actual proof?

Saw a YouTube video from a food safety guy that backed up your roommate. He said the real issue is the washing part and how you dry them. Handles up lets air get in better so water doesn't sit in the spoon bowl and breed bacteria. I switched after that and never looked back. Your roommate might be onto something.

Wait, do you just flip them handle up in the rack or do you actually angle them so the bowls are facing down? I do handle up too but I tilt mine a bit so the air hits the spoon part better, haven't had any funky smells since.

king.derek nailed it, the drying part is key.
