Shoutout to my dad for telling me to prime before painting the basement
I was painting my basement walls last month and thought I could skip the primer to save time and money. My dad kept telling me I'd regret it, and he was right lol. After 2 days the paint started peeling off in these weird patches around the concrete. Had to sand everything down and start over with primer, wasted like 40 bucks on paint that was ruined. Anyone else ever try to skip a step and learn the hard way?
Did you try using a bonding primer specifically for concrete? That was the game changer for my garage floor project. I used a product called something like "concrete sealer primer" from the hardware store, and it made a HUGE difference. It seals the pores in the concrete so the paint actually sticks right. Without it the paint just sits on top like a sticker and peels off easy. I learned that lesson after painting my own basement walls three years ago, so frustrating. Now I always tell people to get the right primer for whatever surface they're working on, especially concrete.
