So we pulled up a 1970s motorcycle from the bottom of Lake Washington

This was about three years ago on a big cleanup job near the I-90 bridge. We were running the 12-inch cutterhead, just chewing through the usual mud and old logs, when the whole barge shuddered like we hit a rock. The foreman yelled to stop, and we spent an hour trying to clear it with the grapple. When it finally broke the surface, it wasn't a rock at all. It was a rusted-out Honda CB750, handlebars and all, tangled in what was left of a dock rope. The crew just stood there staring at this bike dripping lake gunk. We had to call the local sheriff's marine unit to come check it out, and they just shrugged and said 'toss it in the dumpster.' Ever pull up something that made you stop and wonder what the story was?

We found a whole car once, just a rusted shell full of mud.
