Hollow door vs solid core for a patch job night and day difference
Had to patch a hole in a hollow core closet door last Tuesday and it was a nightmare. The paper thin veneer just ripped wider no matter how I cut the patch. Switched to a solid core door on the next repair and it took me less than 20 minutes. Anyone else find hollow doors way harder to work with than they should be?

Not really, just use a sharp blade and take your time.

Right. Nothing says quality carpentry like watching your hole saw turn the door into a confetti cannon.

Not really, just use a sharp blade and take your time" - that's kind of missing the point, isn't it? I mean, sure, a sharp blade helps, but with hollow core doors you're fighting that paper thin veneer the whole time. The material itself is the problem, not just the tool. On a solid core door you can actually cut into something that holds its shape instead of just tearing like wet cardboard. I get that some people are fine with hollow doors, but calling it a simple blade issue feels like skipping over the real headache.
