Wasted $40 on that fancy automatic taper tool from Amazon

Bought one of those auto taper tools from Amazon for $40 and it jammed up after 3 sheets of 5/8. Had to cut the tape out with a razor and bin the whole thing. Anyone else have better luck with a specific brand or should I just stick to hand taping?

Tossed that thing in the trash after watching it spit tape everywhere like a broken party streamer. Figured I'd save $40 and some time, ended up wasting double that in frustration and drywall compound. Hand taping ain't that bad once you get the mud consistency right, but I sure do miss the romantic idea of a tool doing all the work for me. Good news is you can use that busted contraption as a paperweight or a conversation starter for your next contractor buddy who's thinking about buying one.

Broken party streamer" is way too accurate for that piece of junk.

Picked one of those up at a hardware store once and it lasted about as long as a bag of chips at a party @anna_fox7. Mine wrapped the tape around the roller so tight I had to use a screwdriver to pry it apart, then the spring shot across the garage and I never saw it again. Stuck to hand taping after that, and honestly my walls look better now than when I was wrestling with that stupid machine.
