Just realized I've fixed exactly 1000 PS4s with that same disc drive issue
The number popped up in my repair log software today and I actually laughed. It's always that little plastic gear in the drive assembly, every single time. Anyone else have a repair that's become weirdly predictable like that?

That's a crazy amount of broken plastic gears.

Reminds me of a cheap robot vacuum I had, @umamartin. The thing ate through a new plastic gear every few months. It got to the point where I just expected the repair as part of regular upkeep.

Laughing at myself here because I've totally been that guy staring at a pile of broken gears wondering if I should just tape 'em back together. My cheapest vacuum ever had a gear that snapped on the second run - luckily it was a cheap part to replace, but still. It's like these companies know the plastic can't hold up, so they make the replacements just expensive enough to annoy you. Might as well call it a subscription at that point, right?
