The day a client in Chicago called me out on my own dark circles lol
I had this regular client who came in every 6 weeks for facials, and one day she just looked at me after I finished her treatment and said "girl, when are you gonna practice what you preach about those eyes?" She pointed out I had been over-exfoliating my own skin with a 10% glycolic acid every single night. Took me forever to realize I was damaging my moisture barrier by not giving my skin any recovery days between treatments. Has anyone else had a client give you a reality check about your own routine?

Oh man that hits way too close to home lol. I did the exact same thing with a vitamin C serum a few years back, thought more was better so I was slapping it on morning and night like it was going out of style. My skin turned all red and peely and I just kept going because I figured it was "purging" or something. It took a friend who does skincare to literally sit me down and explain that if your face feels tight after washing you've already messed up your moisture barrier. Now I'm super careful about giving my skin actual rest days and my face looks way less angry. Good on your client for calling you out, sometimes we need that push from someone outside our own head.

My friend Karen who's an esthetician in Portland caught me using a gritty scrub every morning for like 6 months straight. She just grabbed my face one day and said "stop it, you're literally stripping your skin raw." I had no idea that much manual scrubbing was doing more harm than good. Now I only do a gentle enzyme thing twice a week and my face feels so much less tight and red. It's funny how we get so caught up in trying to fix things we just go overboard without even realizing it.
