My friend's job application in Chicago got auto-rejected by an AI system last month

The system flagged his resume for a gap year he took to care for a sick parent, even though he explained it in his cover letter. Now he's worried other companies are doing the same thing without telling people. How can we push for more transparency in hiring algorithms?

Actually, it's not really an AI system. It's just automated resume screening software that looks for keywords. They've been around for years. The real problem is that no one checks why it rejects people.

You're right about the keyword thing, @fisher.adam. I got past one by copying words from the job ad into my resume's white text. It's a dumb game but it got me an interview.

Did the same thing with @fisher.adam, worked like a charm for me too.
