Ticked off about my smart thermostat sharing data without asking first

I caught my Nest sending temperature and occupancy patterns to Google every 15 minutes even after I toggled 'privacy mode' three times. Has anyone actually found a smart home device that doesn't phone home like this?

Huh, wonder if unplugging it actually makes it stop or just hides the data?

Unplugging just puts a muzzle on it while the data's already gone.

90% of my 'smart' gadgets are basically snitches with better Wi-Fi. That Nest thing sounds like a nightmare. My smart lights ping home about every color change I make. Honestly, I'm pretty sure my toaster knows my morning routine better than my own dog at this point. Ngl, it's a little embarrassing.
