I finally listened when a neighbor said my lawn watering schedule was off
This guy named Dave told me I was watering at noon and it was just evaporating, so I switched to 6 AM. After 3 weeks, my grass actually turned green instead of that crispy yellow. Has anyone else had a random piece of advice totally change their yard game?

That reminds me of something I read in a gardening newsletter last spring about how watering at the wrong time can actually make grass more prone to fungus, not just evaporation. @bettys51 makes a good point about three weeks being fast for a full recovery, but my neighbor had a similar story where his lawn went from mostly brown to patchy green in about a month after he switched to early morning watering. I think what really helps is that the water soaks into the roots before the sun gets high enough to dry everything out. I noticed a big difference just by setting my hose timer to 5 AM instead of 7 AM, because even that extra hour made the soil stay damp longer.

Three weeks is actually kind of fast for grass to turn green from just changing the time, especially if it was really crispy (that usually takes a full growing season or two). But the 6 AM thing is definitely a game changer, even if your yard might have had some rain help too.
