My buddy swore you need to wait 30 minutes after eating to swim

Last summer at Lake Tahoe, my friend Mike freaked out when I jumped in the water 10 minutes after lunch. He kept yelling about cramps and drowning. I looked it up later and found zero real cases of anyone dying from swimming on a full stomach. It's just something parents say to keep kids calm. Has anyone actually seen this go wrong or is it all talk?

Wait, you ever seen what happens when your buddy eats a chili dog and jumps right in? I knew a guy in high school. Kevin. Ate a full plate of nachos, cannonballed off the diving board. Let's just say he painted the pool orange. Not a drowning situation, but definitely a bathroom emergency.

@paul251 Kevin sounds like a legend. I've seen similar things at public pools. One time a kid ate four hot dogs at a birthday party and then went down the slide. Let's just say the pool closed for a deep clean. Some lessons you only learn once.

Four hot dogs and then a slide? @dylan_bell that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I've seen grown adults make the same mistake with chili cheese fries and regret it instantly. Something about speeding down a slide just shakes everything loose, I guess.
