The day I tried microwaving my burger instead of the drive-thru reheat trick

Stumbled on this by accident last week. Had a leftover Arby's roast beef sandwich that sat in the fridge for like 5 hours and it was tough as leather. Tried the usual microwave for 30 seconds and it came out soggy and gross. So I wrapped it in a damp paper towel and nuked it for 15 seconds flat, then let it sit for a minute. Actually came out soft and steamy, almost like fresh. Has anyone else tried something weird like that to fix a sad leftover fast food item?

Ha, the damp paper towel trick is legit - I read somewhere that the moisture creates steam that basically rehydrates the bread and meat without making them soggy. Your 15 second soak sounds way better than the 30 second blast I always try to fight through.

Used to be one of those people who swore the microwave ruined everything, figured reheated fast food was just a lost cause no matter what you did. Tried the damp towel thing on some leftover chicken strips and it actually made them edible again, not dry at all. Definitely changed my mind about microwaves being useless for leftovers.

Read somewhere that restaurant microwaves are WAY more powerful than home ones, so that paper towel trick basically forces steam back into the meat like a commercial steamer would. I always toss a glass of water in with leftover pizza to keep it from turning into a cracker, same basic idea about adding moisture back. Your 15 second soak trick sounds genius for those dried out roast beef sandwiches.
