Had a gate sag on me in the middle of a job in Tucson last summer

We were putting up a 6-foot cedar fence and the customer's kid swung on the gate before the concrete was even set. The whole post shifted about an inch out of plumb. Now I always tell clients to keep everyone, especially kids, clear for at least 24 hours. Do you guys put up any kind of barrier or warning tape while the concrete cures?

24 hours seems like overkill lol. Is an inch out of plumb really that big a deal for a fence gate?

An inch is a huge deal for a gate post, @king.derek. It makes the latch not line up and the gate will always drag or not close right. We always use bright orange caution tape around any fresh post for at least a full day, just to be safe.

It's a pattern where people just can't leave a wet thing alone... you see it with fresh paint and new concrete. That inch is a huge deal because it throws the whole latch off and the gate never swings right again.
