I had a client in Portland insist on cedar posts for a chain link fence

He said it would look 'more natural' and paid extra for the materials, but after one wet winter, half of them were warped and pulling the whole line out of true. Has anyone else dealt with a customer who pushed for a material choice that just didn't suit the job?

Ever try showing them photos of what happens after a year?

Saw a piece once about how cedar, while rot-resistant, really needs to be pressure-treated for ground contact in wet climates. That Portland weather (all that rain, you know) would definitely do a number on untreated posts. It's a shame, because the idea of a natural look makes sense, but the material just wasn't right for that job.

Honestly though, maybe the client just wanted something beautiful for a little while, lol.
