A thing I saw at a new food hall in Austin about plating

I was at that new food hall on South Congress last weekend... and every single plate from the fancy spots looked the same. Tiny portions on big white plates with a swoosh of sauce and one lonely herb on top. It felt like they cared more about how it looked on Instagram than if you'd actually leave full. I paid $18 for three scallops and a smear of puree. Has anyone else noticed this style taking over, or is it just me?

Guess I'm the odd one out because I actually like that style. For me, a meal out is about the whole experience, not just getting stuffed. Those small, pretty plates make me slow down and really taste everything. I'd rather have three amazing scallops I remember than a huge plate of something forgettable. Maybe it's not for every day, but for a special treat, I enjoy it.

What's the most you've paid for a meal like that, and did it feel worth it after?

Used to roll my eyes at tiny plates but honestly they changed my mind.
