I hit 50 different hot sauces in my collection and it made me realize something
I mean, I just counted them all last week, and I have over 50 bottles now. It hit me that maybe 90% of them are just vinegar with chili powder and food coloring, and they all taste basically the same. Has anyone else built up a big collection of something food-related only to find most of it is just hype?

I had that with fancy olive oils, then I found one made from wild olives that actually tasted different.

Honestly I was the same with craft beer for a while. I had a whole fridge door packed with different cans, thinking I was exploring all these unique flavors. Then I tried a few side by side and realized most were just slightly different levels of bitter and citrus. It gets easy to get caught up in having a big collection, doesn't it? What's one sauce you have that actually stands out as totally different?

Oh that's so true, it really is the same pattern everywhere. We end up collecting variations of the same thing and call it a hobby. For sauces, the only one that truly shocked me was a smoked peach habanero. It wasn't just heat, it had this deep, almost savory fruit flavor that changed the whole meal. Makes you realize most of the others are just vinegar and pepper in different bottles.
