The week every lunch tasted like dish soap

Last Tuesday my avocado toast tasted like soap. Then Wednesday the same with my eggs. By Friday I realized it was the new cutting board. I got it from a friend in Portland and soaked it too long in vinegar water. Anyone else ruin a whole week of meals with one bad kitchen move?

Oh wow, I used to think soaking new cutting boards in vinegar was smart until I had the same thing happen with a wooden board from a farmers market. It turned all my salads into soap-flavored disasters for a solid week.

Ugh, yeah I did that once and my onions tasted like I'd washed them in dish soap for a week.

Honestly, I'm a little skeptical that a vinegar soak would make your food taste like soap for a whole week. I've soaked plenty of new wooden boards in a vinegar solution and never had that happen. Maybe the wood was just really unseasoned or had some weird finish on it, @lily_singh2. Or maybe it was something else in your kitchen that got into those salads. To me, it sounds a bit like blaming the vinegar when it could have been a cutting board that wasn't properly rinsed or had some factory residue. But hey, if it happened to you, I'm not saying you're wrong.
