Pro tip: Check the 'servings per container' on that 'single serve' snack bag from the gas station.

Last Tuesday I grabbed a bag of chips at a 7-Eleven in Toledo that said 'single serve' on the front, but the tiny print on the back listed two servings inside, which meant the 12 grams of sugar shown was actually for half the bag.

Check the nutrition label for total sugars, not just servings. The front of the bag can say anything. The real numbers are always in that little chart. They make the serving size small so the sugar and fat look lower. It's a trick to make you think you're eating less than you are. You have to do the math yourself if you eat the whole thing.

But what if the serving size is actually helpful? A whole bag of chips is a lot for one sitting. Maybe the label is just giving you a realistic idea of a normal portion. If you eat three servings, that's on you, not the company. They can't put the numbers for the whole bag because not everyone eats it all at once. It's just basic info, not a trick.

Kelly has a point about portion control, but Sarah's right about the math. I always check the total grams in the bag and divide it by the serving size grams. That tells you the real number of servings. A "single serve" bag often has two or three servings listed, which feels sneaky. You gotta multiply the calories and sugar by that number if you finish it.
