I saw a place in Seattle charging $18 for avocado toast with edible gold flakes on it.

That's the moment I realized the 'artisanal toast' trend has officially jumped the shark and we need to talk about what's actually worth the money versus what's just for Instagram.

My friend paid twenty bucks for rainbow grilled cheese last month, just to get a photo. She said the bread was cold and the cheese tasted like nothing special. We laughed about it later because she was still hungry and made a real sandwich at home. Some places are just selling a picture, not a good meal. It makes you wonder who is really buying gold flake toast more than once. What was the most overpriced food you ever saw?

Remember that clear soda with a single gummy bear for like fifteen dollars? It was just tap water and candy. Who even tries that stuff more than once? Feels like a prank on people who want to look fancy online. I'd rather eat a whole bag of gummy bears for two bucks and be actually happy.

Actually, gold flake toast is a thing here in Tokyo. It's wild, but people do buy it more than once. I guess it's for a fancy date or a treat, not really about the taste.
