Foundries around here are getting smarter with old molds, and it's cool!
I just found out a bunch of places are reusing mold sand in new ways. My crew started baking the sand to clean it instead of tossing it out. It saves a ton of cash and cuts down on dump trips. A friend at another shop told me they mix in a bit of new sand each time. Now we do the same thing and our casts come out crisp. It's a small change but it makes a big difference!

Reusing materials like that is always a win. In my shop, we reuse blasting sand until it's too fine to work. We sieve it to remove junk and mix in fresh sand sometimes. It saves cash and cuts down on dump trips. Parts come out clean without buying new sand all the time. Small changes like that add up over time.

No kidding, @luna_kelly! That's such a smart move. I mean, reusing stuff like that really does add up over time. It's not just about saving money, but also cutting down on waste, which is huge. Idk, maybe it's just me, but seeing shops do this makes me think more people should try it. Small changes really do make a difference, like you said.

Quinn's point about small changes adding up is spot on. I see it in my town with more people sharing tools or mending clothes instead of tossing them.
