Not sure why milk paint is so popular all of a sudden

I've seen a lot more jobs using milk paint lately. It looks good but doesn't hold up like other coatings. Last month, a client wanted a table done with it and now it's already showing wear. They didn't want any extra protection because they liked the matte feel. I'm wondering if people know it needs more care. Maybe there's a trick to making it last longer. What do you all think?

My friend's 10 year old milk paint dresser looks fine, so maybe the wear is part of the charm.

Feel for you patw85. My old coffee table has a whole corner chewed up from a dog I had years ago, and now I just tell people it's a feature. Sometimes the stuff that looks beat up just has the best stories.
