I finally stopped obsessing over benchmark scores for my new phone.

My old Galaxy S21 felt perfectly fast for everything I actually do, which tipped me off that I was just chasing numbers. Anyone else think we overvalue synthetic performance tests?

Totally get this. I was doing the same thing with my laptop, checking scores for weeks. Then I realized I only use it for email and watching videos, and it's been fine for years. We really do get caught up in numbers that don't mean much for normal stuff.

That point about only using your laptop for email and videos is spot on... it made me realize these benchmarks are really just stress tests. They show how a device handles the hardest possible work, but most of us never push our gadgets that far. It's like buying a race car just to drive to the grocery store. The numbers give companies something to fight over in ads, so we end up caring about a race we're not even in.
