A pink flamingo started a feud on my cul-de-sac

Last week, a new neighbor put a bright pink flamingo in their front yard. Several older residents on our cul-de-sac were upset, saying it ruins the street's classic feel. They prefer simple, elegant yards with no flashy items. The younger families argue that they should be able to express themselves. Now, the homeowners association is involved, and tensions are high. I live next door and hear both sides daily. I want to help find a compromise before this gets worse. Does anyone have experience with generational clashes over neighborhood aesthetics? What worked for you?

That plastic flamingo is just a symbol for a bigger fight about who controls the street. Are you sure this is really about old vs young, or is it about a few loud people using the HOA to push their taste on everyone? The problem is probably the association rules themselves, not the neighbors. Maybe look at changing the vague rules about "aesthetics" to something clear about safety and upkeep, so people know what's actually allowed. Trying to make both generations happy might miss the real issue.

Tbh, I'm shocked that just a few people can use the HOA to force their taste on everyone. That's not what community rules should be about.

Seriously, are plastic flamingos worth this much drama?
